Mutual Fund Fees

I just read an interesting article “Do Fees Really Matter” by Duncan Hood on www.moneysense.ca. It was timely as I recently posted on my dislike of mutual funds.

Here is an excerpt from the article that I particularly enjoyed:

“If you bought a cheap mutual fund, wouldn't your performance suffer? Probably not. No one has ever been able to prove that funds with higher fees perform better on average than funds with lower fees. In fact, when Gene Hochachka, a former quantitative analyst for Vancouver mutual fund company Phillips, Hager & North, looked at how fees affected the performance of Canadian funds between 1986 and 2003, he found that for every extra percentage point that was charged in fees, performance went down by a percentage point.”

The article is short and sweet and gives readers a breakdown of how your “real returns” would be affected by both inflation and mutual fund fees. It’s worth a read.

Out of curiousity I used my paid commission divided by the market value of the securities bought so far this year.
The result came to .26%, I presume that would be the corret way of fiquring out your "MER" for your personal trading.

If that is correct it's a lot cheaper than any ole mutual fund.

I use the same type of metrics when measuring my 'buy fees', however I do not think you can compare these types of fees to mutual fund fees.

Wouldn't mutual fund fees come off the top (as a percent) of your returns each and every year, whereas your buy fee only occurs as a one time fee on a number of shares in the first year of holding.

This is due to the fact that you will not need
to purchase another dresser for your child when he or she begins to grow up.
Recently, I discovered that bassinets were being offered
in non-traditional styles, such as round, and I
am sooo jealous that I have already had my three babies, and being
recently divorced, don't know if I will have any more children that would need such a piece. The ones that do are typically not comfortable for either you or your babies.

The Lego figure has an evil face, a detailed body with a cape and removable
helmet as well as the inevitable red lightsaber.
Being Lego there is of course a construction element to all the games and this is a great way to get younger
fans into game play beyond computers. It is also a must to have a player and star wars
disc, right size of projector screen for the venue, multimedia projector, and remember also, do not forget good ventilation.

This can help you only look for vacuums that meet this price criterion and you will not be tempted to look at a vacuum that is out of
your price range. As can be seen from the above applications,
cleaners of this type have a wide variety of uses. It is
also important that you should consider its form.

Fresh water cultured pearls turn up in a wider range of
colors and shapes than their saltwater counterparts. A pearl collar generally contains 2 or more strands
(often 3 or more) and sits right in the middle of your neck.

Types of set - some children are naturally inclined towards machines, whilst some move towards buildings or a
combination of both. Almost everyone can probably recall playing with them as a child, putting together figures and taking
them apart without any regard for what they were doing. com receives
